What is Deep Tissue Massage?
A deep tissue massage is a full body massage that borrows heavily from Swedish massage techniques but employs deep pressure and slow movements to treat muscles and connective tissues (known as fascia) below the surface muscle layers.
In a deep tissue massage your therapist will seek out knots and areas of chronic tension in the muscle. They will spend time focusing on releasing the tension in these areas using specific, dedicated deep pressure techniques.
The Massage Itself
Before you begin your session your therapist will ask about your treatment goals and any trouble spots or areas that you would like them to focus on. They will also discuss what level of pressure you would like. As they work on the knots and tension areas you may find that these areas are sensitive and you may experience some mild discomfort as compared to a relaxation massage.
Your feedback during the massage is very important, please let your therapist know about any discomfort and if you would like more or less pressure as the massage progresses. Their goal is to work with you to achieve maximum benefit from the massage while being sure not to cause any undue discomfort or pain.

A deep tissue massage will help to reduce spasms and scar tissue resulting from chronic injury or overuse. It will release tension, reduce muscle tightness and help treat chronic pain. This works by addressing the tightness and tension and reducing inflammation from stressed muscles in the affected areas. Another benefit of a deep tissue massage is a general increase in blood circulation and lymphatic flow. This helps increase the flow of oxygen and nutrients to your system and also helps to accelerate the removal of cellular waste products and toxins.
